BizTalk
Microsoft BizTalk Server, which is often referred to as BizTalk, is an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) that uses adapters that are tailored to communicate with different software systems within large organisations, and so it enables companies to automate business processes.
In a common scenario, BizTalk enables companies to integrate and manage automated business processes by exchanging business documents, such as purchase orders and invoices, between disparate applications, within or across organisational boundaries.
The majority of modern business processes depend (at least in part) on software. While some of these processes are supported by a single application, many rely on old or diverse software systems that could have been created at different times, perhaps on different platforms and using different technologies. Automating those business processes requires connecting diverse systems.
eBECS uses BizTalk to connect business partners together and forms the heart of the collaboration process. BizTalk is a flexible and easily configurable toolset that provides robust integration, enabling the seamless flow of information within and among enterprises on a global basis.
Functionality
BizTalk provides the following IT functions: Enterprise Application Integration (EAI), Business Process Automation (BPA), Business-to-business Communication and Message broker. Human-centric processes cannot be implemented directly with BizTalk Server and need additional solutions like Microsoft SharePoint server.
The server is designed to allow clients to maximise their existing investments by integrating BizTalk Server 2010 with Windows Server AppFabric and SharePoint Server 2010 and so enhance the performance of large mission-critical deployments. It will also facilitate a reduction in total ownership costs.
A significant benefit to also consider, is the server's ability to maximise the value of existing Line of Business (LOB) systems by automating the business process.
