Data Warehousing

With its dedicated Kimball and Inmon trained Business Intelligence consultants, eBECS can design and build bespoke data warehouses that provide the foundations for the Analytical Layer.

A Data Warehouse is a database that has been structured specifically for reporting and its aim is to form the foundation for all analysis. This structure differs greatly from that of a traditional OLTP (transactional) database.

Data Warehousing enables data from multiple disparate systems to be consolidated and conformed into a structure that is easy to understand and consume.

Tables and column names mimic business terminology thereby allowing reports to be generated without in-depth knowledge of source systems.

Business logic is embedded in the data load process, which reduces the strain on the reporting application.

The data warehouse stores data in a BUS structure allowing reports to span different silos of information stored in different modules or operational systems.

Data warehousing isolates the reporting solution from its source systems to ensure information is available without impacting the operational system.  Changes to the source system do not affect the reporting layer.

A data warehouse has the following advantages :-

  • Specifically structured for report query performance
  • Conform multiple disparate data sources into a single repository
  • Enables simple self-service reporting structures
  • Table and Column names follow business terminology
  • Reduces reporting cycles
  • Reduces Strain on Source Systems
  • Enables cross functional analysis
  • Isolates reporting from operational system changes
  • Provides a repository for large amounts of Historical Data
  • Contains clean standardised data
