Microsoft Dynamics 365 – What about me?

Are you a current Microsoft Dynamics customer? How does the new Microsoft Dynamics 365 roadmap affect you? Well the good news is that Microsoft hasn’t forgotten its great user base, but as of the 1st of November new customers won’t be able to buy either Microsoft CRM Online or the new Microsoft Dynamics AX (aka AX7). So, assuming you are already a Dynamics user, how will Dynamics 365 affect you?

Let’s start with the main group of users:

On-Premises Dynamics AX & Dynamics CRM users

You may have been investing in Microsoft Dynamics for years – does this mean that you are going to be forced to move to the cloud? Absolutely not! Microsoft have committed to continue to develop and support their on-premises versions of Microsoft Dynamics AX and CRM for the foreseeable future. At the moment the launch date for the on-premises version of the new Dynamics AX has not been publically announced, but this new version will be perfect for many customers, bringing many of the benefits of Dynamics 365 to the on-premises world.

However, many organisations will use this opportunity to either move completely to Dynamics 365 (especially those with older versions of Dynamics AX), or to put one foot in the cloud in a hybrid model. If you are thinking about doing this, I would encourage you to do what a number of eBECS customers have done already and take a look at the new Microsoft Dynamics 365 and decide what you want to bring with you – those developments you made years ago may now be part of the core product, or you may not need them anymore.

So what is Microsoft doing to entice you to Microsoft Dynamics 365?

Microsoft Dynamics CRM On-Premises Customers

Microsoft has announced a special customer cloud transition offer to make the transition easier for you. Beginning on the 1 st of November 2016, and open to all Microsoft CRM On-Premises customers who purchased their licences before the 31st of October 2016, you will receive a minimum of 40% discount which will be applied to the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Enterprise Edition cost.

This discount will be available if you buy Microsoft Dynamics 365 through an Enterprise Agreement (EA), Microsoft Products and Service Agreement (MPSA), or Cloud Solution Provider (CSP), and will run until the 1st of November 2019. This discount is applied using what Microsoft are calling a “Cloud Add On”, which means that you need to have an active enhancement plan or software assurance, and this discount will apply for your agreement term.

If this is of interest, please let us know at eBECS – we are running a free upgrade from Microsoft CRM On Premises to Dynamics 365 for eligible customers!

Microsoft Dynamics AX On-Premises Customers

Similar to the CRM On-Premises cloud transition offer, beginning on the 1st of November 2016, current Microsoft Dynamics AX customers will be able to take advantage of a 40% discount when you transition to Microsoft Dynamics 365, Enterprise Edition.

This offer is available to both Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 and Microsoft Dynamics 2012 customers who have a current enhancement plan or software assurance. However, if you are a Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 customer, you will first need to upgrade your licences from concurrent users (AX2009) to named users (AX2012).

Just like CRM On-Premises, the reduced price is available through an Enterprise Agreement (EA), Microsoft Products and Service Agreement (MPSA), or Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) and will be available until the 1 st of November 2019, but it’s important to note that the reduced pricing does not apply to the Dynamics 365 for Operations App user – only for Plan 2, Team Members and Device licences.

Cloud customers – AX7 & CRMOL

For you the change is a lot simpler. You can carry on using your current versions of Microsoft’s Business Applications in the cloud until renewal if you so wish, and at that point you will then be migrated to Microsoft Dynamics 365, Enterprise Edition licencing.

As an example, if you are an existing AX7 customer with a 3 year Enterprise Agreement today you can either stay on AX7 until the end of your agreement or move before then if you so wish. You can keep on adding new AX7 users without any penalty, and all users will be moved to Microsoft Dynamics 365 at the beginning of your new contract.

I hope this gives you some comfort that you haven’t been forgotten by Microsoft (or eBECS!) in the rush to the cloud. As ever, if you would like us to go into more detail on how you can either move to the cloud with Dynamics 365, or make the most of your current On-Premises investment please don’t hesitate to ask.

Here are my tips – what are yours?

  • You won’t be forced to move to the cloud, but now may be a good opportunity to see if you can combine Microsoft Dynamics 365 with your current investments
  • If you are a current Microsoft Dynamics in the cloud customer, your organisation can move to Microsoft Dynamics 365 at any point after November the 1st 2016
