The background
From 1 April 2019, all VAT-registered UK businesses with a taxable turnover above the VAT threshold (except those that HMRC has deferred), will be required by HMRC to:
a. Keep digital VAT records
b. Submit VAT Returns digitally to HMRC using Making Tax Digital (MTD) compatible software.
Those businesses that are deferred will need to meet the requirements for their first accounting period on or after 1 October 2019.
